2009 Trade Mission to Tripoli, Libya
April 17 - 23, 2009 U.S.-Libyan trade has soared since the recent retraction of economic sanctions against Libya, this market now presents a promising outlet to U.S. companies. Trade totaled nearly $3 billion in 2006, primarily from more than $2.5 billion in Libyan petroleum exports to the United States, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. Libya also became the fastest-growing market for U.S. exports in the world, increasing 419 percent to $434 million. Recent U.S. exports to Libya involve machinery related to the petroleum industry, aircraft, automobiles, and agriculture. In November 2007 Libya announced that it would spend 150 billion dinars ($123.4 billion) on public works, much of it in infrastructure, over the next five years.

April 1st, 2009 Houston to Doha direct air flight featuring Mr. Akbar al-Baker, CEO, Qatar Airways Qatar Airways welcomes second Boeing 777-200LR to its fleet. The Doha – Houston route, linking the energy capitals of the world is scheduled for launch on March 30, said Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker. Ambassador Series: Luncheon with the Ambassador of Egypt to the US
Ambassador Sameh Shoukry discusses Egyptian-US Bilateral Relations and Shared Objectives to members of the Bilateral US-Arab Chamber of Commerce.
Over 100 senior business executives attended the presentation by Ambassador Sameh Shoukry on his first visit to Texas. The Ambassador pointed to President Obama’s first courtesy call in office that was made to President Mubarak of Egypt as evidence of strengthening bilateral relations between the U.S. and Egypt. He also fielded questions about the recent conflict between Gaza and Israel and hoped for substantive results during Secretary Clinton’s visit to Cairo this week. While in Egypt, Secretary Clinton said the United States wanted to foster conditions for a peaceful and responsible Palestinian state with a promise of over $900 million in aid. Governor Rick Perry sent a proclamation bestowing Ambassador Shoukry as an Honorary Citizen of Texas. The event was sponsored by Apache, Chevron, Energy Allied, KBR, and Schlumberger.
