Egypt's Orascom Telecom declares 1 EGP dividend
Egypt's Orascom Telecom announced a 2008 dividend of one Egyptian pound ($0.18) per share, Egypt's stock exchange said. The regional mobile operator said shareholders will have the option to receive either a cash dividend or its stock equivalent. There are 900 million listed OT shares, stock exchange data showed. OT reported in May a 66 percent drop in first quarter net profit, citing currency devaluations versus the U.S. dollar in key markets. The firm is active in Algeria, Tunisia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and North Korea, in addition to Egypt.
Omantel signs five-year VPN agreement with Dhofar Insurance
Oman Telecommunications Company, also knows as Omantel, has signed a five-year agreement with Dhofar Insurance Company to connect the insurer's branch offices with its main office through a virtual private network, according to reports. Omantel will use the high speed multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) technology as part of the virtual private network (VPN), to link 36 branches of Dhofar Insurance with its main office at a speed of 4mbs per second. It will also provide the Omani insurer with computer terminals and other necessary equipment, according to reports.
