Shopping and retail-linked entertainment has entered in a new area in Bahrain with the "grand opening" at the weekend by Crown Prince Sheikh Salman Bin Hamad Isa Al Khalifa of the kingdoms premier shopping mall in the capital Manama a keenly-anticipated move which the developers claim has finally put the kingdom in what is described as "the global shopping map." Developed by the famous Majid Al Futtaim group, the 1.5 million square mile Bahrain City Centre complex has put shopping and other aspects of mall lifestyle on a par with the myriad delights of Dubai widely regarded as the shopping centre of the Middle East and London, which is just beginning to learn the pleasures of the mall with the opening of the huge new Westfield centre near Shepherds Bush.
Strategic plan to turn Rusafa into modern commercial zone
Plans have been announced to turn the battle scarred Rusafa district in East Baghdad into a modern commercial zone as part of ambitious plans drawn up by the Baghdad Municipality to rebuild the city. The mayor of Baghdad, Sabir al-Isawi, revealed that the redevelopment of Rusafa is just one part of large-scale reconstruction plans for the city, saying that they others have been sent to the Council of Ministers for approval.
