The "Opportunities in Qatar" business conference on October 24th featured keynote presenters: His Excellency Hamad Rashid Al-Mohannadi, CEO of RasGas, speaking on "Qatar, an LNG Partner for the U.S.A.," and His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Bin Ali Al-Thani, representing the Qatar Foundation, speaking on "The Qatar Vision." U.S. exports to Qatar grew from $423 million a year in 2004 to $2.7 billion last year. The Arabian Gulf nation has the world's highest per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and supplies one-third of the world's liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Qatar's reform-minded leadership under the direction of His Royal Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir, is diversifying the economic base of the country beyond oil and gas. They have transformed their hydrocarbon wealth into modern health facilities, tourism infrastructure and Westernstyle educational institutions. Many renowned establishments and corporations from Texas, such as Texas A&M University, The Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions, ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, recognize the value of Qatar's growing economy.
