Iraq pours billions into dam construction programme
The general director for dams and reservoirs in the ministry of water resources will spend several hundred billion dinars over the next few years on an ambitious dam construction programme that will power thousands of homes and businesses. 14 dams have so far been earmarked for construction.
German firm wins waste plant contract
Baghdad municipality has signed a contract with a German company to build two large plants for sorting out and processing waste in the districts of al-Karkh and al-Risafa in Baghdad.
Adil al-Ardawi, media official in the office of the mayor of Baghdad, said that the German company has already surveyed the proposed sites for the plants.
Saudi water plan to cost US$60bn
Saudi Arabia needs to spend around US$60 billion over the next 20 years to meet the kingdoms water needs, according to a top Saudi official.
Water demand is growing at around six per cent per year, Loay Al Musallam, head of privatisation and deputy minister of planning and development at Saudi Arabias Ministry of Water and Electricity said last month.
Qatar: FPI wins new US$138m contract to supply pipe systems
Dubai-based Future Pipe Industries Group (FPI), the leading global manufacturer of large-diameter fiberglass pipe systems, has won a major new contract to supply Fiberstrong fiberglass pipes and fittings for Phase 2, category II, of the project to expand the seawater cooling facility at Ras Laffan Industrial City, in Qatar. These new pipe and fittings orders for Fiberstrong pipe systems are valued at over US$138m (QR505m).
Three new projects to enhance availability of power, water
Three newly planned independent water and power projects (IWPP) and redevelopment of an existing power plant will substantially enhance availability of electricity in the country in the coming years.
The new projects, one each at Salalah, Al Duqm and either at Barka or Sohar, are aimed at enhancing supply of power and water in the Sultanate. Also, move is afoot for redeveloping Al Ghubrah power plant, said Mohammed bin Abdullah al Mahrouqi, Chairman of Public Authority for Electricity and Water.
