Singapore's Darco to build Qatar water plant
Singapore's Darco Water Technologies Ltd said it will build a waste water recycling plant in Qatar with the Middle Eastern country's government in a joint venture project worth up to US$5 billion.
"This is a huge project. At the moment, our estimate is a few billion U.S. dollars, but mostly financed by them," Chief Executive Officer Kim Meng Thye said in an interview, adding that the Qatar government may invest up to US$5 billion.
Iran strikes first in water war
Iran has announced that it intends to dam the river Alun which flows from Western Iran into Iraqi Kurdistan and along Iraqs eastern borders, to keep the rivers reserves firmly within Iranian territory.
The river Alun finds its source in the Dalahu mountain peaks in Iranian Kurdish Kermanshah province, from where it passes through the centre of Khanaqin city in eastern Iraq, meeting with the river Sirwan to form the Diyala river - one of the most important tributaries in Iraq.
US$149m Al Awabi water supply project launched
An RO54 million water supply project is being implemented by a contractor under the supervision of the Public Authority for Electricity and Water in the wilayats of Barka, Al Musanna'ah, A'Rustaq, Nakhal and Wadi al Ma'awal. When completed, the project will supply water to the wilayats of the Southern Batinah region and the wilayats of Al Awabi and A'Rustaq will receive water from the ground water tank in the wilayats of Al Musanna'ah.
Oman Wastewater to issue tenders worth US$625m
The Oman Wastewater Services Company, engaged in building and operating a world class wastewater system in the Governorate of Muscat with an estimated investment of US$1.2 billion, is expected to issue at least five tenders with a combined value of RO250 million this year.
The new tenders will include works related to the main assembly line coming out of Al-Ghubra and extending up to Wadi Adai and a sewage network in Al Khuwair, Al-Qurum and Madinat Al Aalam.
Abu Dhabi earmarks AED113bn for power, water & sewage projects
The Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA) unveiled it is securing AED113 billion to establish water, electricity and sewage projects and installations over the next five years.
Demand for electricity in Abu Dhabi is set to jump by 80 percent from 5,910 megawatts in 2008 to 10,000 MW by 2012, expects data obtained from ADWEA. ADWEA gauges available power feeds in Abu Dhabi in 2008 at 12,503 MW. The emirate's present available electrical generation capability nears 9,245 MW.
UAE officially joins GCC power grid
The UAE has officially joined the GCC power grid in its current phase, it was announced this month.
Yousef Ahmed Janahi, Director of Planning at the Qatari Water and Electricity Corporation, said in remarks here that the UAE has fulfilled its financial obligations as provided for in the relevant agreements. The draft of the multilateral power grid agreement is ready and will be sent to the GCC secretariat, he said.
