Siemens to sign contract with Ministry of Electricity
The giant German company Siemens has expressed its readiness to sign contracts with the Iraqi ministry of electricity to import the main components needed to build electric generation stations.
The total capacity of the new stations is estimated at 3,250 mega watts (MW) and will be installed during the next couple of years.
Work on building Horan 2 and 4 dams in Anbar starts
The building of both Horan 2 and Horan 4 dams in the Anbar governorate with a total storage capacity of 61 million cubic metres will start soon.
An official source at the ministry's general directorate for dams and reservoirs stated that due to the importance of providing water for drinking and irrigation in the distant governorate areas, the ministry has prepared an ambitious plan to build six dams throughout the governorate at a storage capacity of close to 100 million cubic metres in the coming period.

Kuwait, the world’s seventh-largest oil producer which nestles strategically at the top of the Gulf, flanked by Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran, is planning to launch tenders for domestic power expansion worth over US$2.5 billion, in order to meet the expected surge in power demand through 2015.
It is little surprise that details of the power blueprint have been released at the beginning of the baking summer month of June, the time when peak seasonal demand strains the capacity of the grid to capacity in a desert state where air-conditioners run around the clock in most households for the whole long, hot summer.
Iraq pays Russian company US$110m to resume work Yousfiyya Electrical Station
Iraq's ministerial council has agreed to pay US$110 million to the Russian company that was working on the Yousfiyya Electrical Station to cover losses the company incurred after the abandoned site was looted when its workers left in 2003.
The council has also reached an agreement with local tribesmen to provide security for the company’s workers as they return to finish work on the facility. Yusufiyah power plant has a planned capacity of 1,600MW and has been under construction by Russian firms for over a decade.
US$17m Sinjar water project completed
More than 200,000 Iraqis living in the Sinjar Mountain area, 115 kms west of Mosul, are able to enjoy drinking water for the very first time following the completion of the Sinjar Water Project at a cost of US$17 million.
The location of the project is near the Iraqi-Syrian borders, and it falls within Nineveh governorate.
