Security forum opens in Bahrain
More than 200 ministers, security officials and anti-terrorism experts from around 50 countries gathered in Manama for a four-day international forum on security issues. The participants from the United States, Britain, France and other Western countries as well as the Middle East discussed a global approach to Middle East security and to terrorism, the use of information technology by terrorist groups, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the situation in war-torn Iraq.
UAE to sign deal for trainer jets soon
The United Arab Emirates will soon announce its choice of trainer jets for its air force in a deal valued at around one billion US dollars, a senior commander said. The UAE has examined four types of trainer jets and picked two, "one for initial training, the other for advanced training," General Obeid al-Kotbi, who heads the armed forces' body in charge of procurement, said.

US Saudi arms package faces fight in Congress
Lawmakers are striking a note of alarm over reported US plans to sell sophisticated satellite guided bombs to Saudi Arabia, as part of a 20 billion dollar arms sale. A coalition of 188 members of the House of Representatives warned that if the technology fell into the "wrong hands" it could harm US forces in the Middle East and threaten Israel.
